What are the pros and cons of being addicted to videogames?
Evan Answers asked:
I’m looking for constructive criticism here, folks! Seriously, think about it. What are the pros and cons? I just want to know if being addicted to videogames is worth it in the long run.

Pros:
Theyre really fun
Give you a sense of accomplishment
Great hang out activity with friends or when you’re bored
Subject to relate to with people
Cons:
Big, big, big, big waste of time
You probably end up wasting a lot of money on them
Parents get concerned
You might look like a nerd
Girls dont think theyre cool
You most likely eat junk food while you play; bad for your health
You could be out playing baseball or basketball or biking and stuff
Its fine if you play every once in a while, but it really sucks and is annoying that my parents think im addicted when i really only play like 3 times a week

Pros: Good hand-eye coordination, some games exercise logic skills. Entertainment. The want to make your own games (you could get into game design). Fun to talk about with others, fun to play with others. Makes you feel good when you win.
Cons: If you play them too much, you can have a lower social life. Holds up homework, makes you tired. You could have vision or hearing problems if you turn the sound up/sit too close to the monitor/TV. Seizures. Carpal tunnel. Unhealthy unless you’re playing something like Wii fit. Costs money.

There are many pros and not as many cons. Some of the pros are that when you play games your brain is functioning a lot which increases brain activity and is necessary for brain exercise. People diagnosed with AD HD say that after playing a lot of games they can control themselves better. Games also test and improve the limits of your reaction time and hand-eye coordination. In some careers (i.e. surgeon) workers say that games helps them concentrate and practice the skills they need to use in their real careers. Another Pro is that studies have proven that kids who play games are NOT as violent as those who dont play games. The final Pro is that as people age, the people that played games had stronger brain functionality then those that did not.The only cons are that games waste time, electricity, and your eyes.

none, from a gamer perspective, unless you get addicted and think it fun to act out god of war or grand theft auto for real, then you just help some serious psych help
my dad and I loves videogames and he’s a surgeon, okay maybe some of the doom game got to him.
it’s not a Q’s of it being “worth it” or not, it’s a q’s of can you handle it with objectivity and not be so immersed in it that you loose sight of reality.
but stay away from starcraft, people died playing it,lol

Pros: Keeps gamers out of trouble and off drugs. Who can be good at a game if they are all hopped up?
Won’t be bored.
Cons: Eyestrain (red irritated eyes too) and sometimes headaches. All I want to do is play games when I have better things to do!
I think there is nothing wrong with being addicted to video games. Eventually a person might tire of them and do other things they are more interested in. When there are more important things to be done, I’m sure we all do them. Even when we do the things we don’t want to do, while we are doing them we can think “At least I have something fun to look forward to later on!”
