What are the Most Infamous Examples of Vaporware Videogames?

walkercanadianranger asked:

What are some of the most famous/imfamous examples of vaporware videogames? “Vaporware” being a hyped game that has either been stuck in development forever or simply never came out. More recent examples would be best.

The single most well known example is Duke Nukem Forever.

We’re still waiting. It never happened, and we’re not sure if it ever will. Daikatana was also known to be vaporware that finally materialized and underwhelmed us all. In the end, we probably would have preferred it stay vaporware.

Spore has also bordered on vaporware, with great hype and no release seen to date, although we’ve got a release date to look forward to. Also considered vaporware, Diablo 3. While not as hyped as many others, we’ve waited a long time to see a new Diablo game with no results so far.

Still, when the word vaporware is spoken, the first thing in most people’s minds is “Duke Nukem Forever”.
