Kids today can choose from a lengthy array of sports, hobbies, talents and other activities. Some examples include enrolling your child in dance lessons or in arts, but if he or she is musically inclined, why not consider children piano lessons?

Private children piano lessons or even those held in a group don’t come cheap. The online lessons available for children on the Internet today are not only highly convenient and very affordable, many times they are free. If your children are interested in learning a musical instrument rather than play videogames, why don’t you introduce them to the piano? According to an announcement made Wednesday, Jackson and Walsh will be deeply involved in key titles to be published under various Microsoft brands. In a first stage, the parties will collaborate to develop two new “interactive entertainment series” for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, the first of which will be a sequel to Halo and the second “will be an entirely original property targeted at bringing new audiences into the captivating world of interactive entertainment.”

Microsoft Corp. said on Wednesday that it is teaming with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson to create content for its Xbox 360, in part to get more mainstream users interested in the company’s video game console.

Just don’t call these products “games.” “I don’t want to classify it as a game. I’m hoping to stretch the definition of interactive entertainment to go beyond the game,” said Shane Kim, a corporate vice president in charge of Microsoft Game Studios. Kim conceded he’s not sure what exactly these new “entertainments” might be.

“I feel like we haven’t figured it out, to be honest,” he said. Whatever they are, Kim said they could include deeper plot lines and more interactive drama, or delivering additional content over time, perhaps through the company’s Xbox Live online service. “It’s about making interactive entertainment a mainstream form of entertainment,” Kim said.

Jackson and his Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Fran Walsh, will be directly involved in the creation of the new “Halo” title. Jackson, whose third movie in his Rings trilogy won 11 Oscars, including best director and best film, plans to work with Bungie Studios to create one product based on Microsoft’s already popular Halo game, Kim said. Screenwriter Fran Walsh, Jackson’s wife, also is on board. The other product will be aimed at an audience beyond the young men typically associated with video games. Kim couldn’t say when either of Jackson’s projects might come out.

Microsoft also said on Wednesday that it was working on another Halo game, called Halo Wars. It will be more of a strategy game, rather than the first-person shooter that has typified the series until now.

Halo Wars will be in addition to Jackson’s creation and the previously announced Halo 3, due out next year. The company also announced North American and European pricing for its external DVD player, which will be available in November as an add-on to the Xbox 360.

There are many FAQs on the Internet regarding ROMs and where to obtain them. These are downloaded and transferred to the appropriate folder for use. Are all these games being preloaded into this device inside the 4 GB internal memory?

The design looks really cool. Materials are good, and the buttons are well disposed, so it´s easy to play games. However is a little hard to hanlde if you have big hands, not so hard as the GBM of course. The screen has great quality and lets us to see photo, video and games in a really good condition.  Worth it, but not perfect by Ryan Huston on 04/17/2009: Before the arrival of this, i DLed 10Gigabytes worth of NES, SNES, GBA, NEOGEO,etc ROMS. Now that I’ve received it, I’m happy to report that it IS worth the money. My only gripe is that, as that one reviewer stated, the NEO GEO isn’t working. It comes with a neogeo.zip on the device, so its just a matter of figuring out how/where to unzip it. I’ve tried a couple locations and it’s yet to work. I’ll figure it out though. My only other gripe is that it doesn’t play a few ROMS that i DLed, but that may simply be the ROMS problem and not the handheld. The picture is crisp, the sound works well, the menu is pretty easy to navigate, the overall quality of the buttons and d-pad are better than expected…. Overall i’m pleasantly surprised with my purchase. Only time will tell how this holds up. The box did state a 12 month warranty, so that’s promising. I give this a 4.5/5 simply because the NEO GEO isn’t working and there’s no instruction HOW to make it work. But even if you only want to play GBA games, or NES games, Or SNES games, it’s worth it to have THOUSANDS of classics in palm of your hand.

December 2 saw the birth of a new umbrella corporation in the gaming industry. Activision and Vivendi Games are to combine into one great powerhouse and be called … Activision Blizzard! So what exactly are we looking at here? Apart from a slew of well known titles such as Guitar Hero (Activision) and Crash Bandicoot (Vivendi), the games libraries of both companies span across all platforms, consoles and handhelds, from this generation and previous ones.

As early as 2003 Vivendi was contemplating selling off its games division. Instead, the company’s entertainment division merged with gargantuan US TV network NBC, so taking considerable pressure off the French company. Under that deal, Vivendi sold on Universal Studios, its cable TV networks and its theme parks, and they were paid $3.8 billion, while NBC assumed another $1.6 billion in debt.

The new company was called Vivendi Universal, a $43 billion dollar company. NBC owned 80% of the assets, which included Universal Studios and television network NBC.

The new deal with Activision is valued at $18.9 billion, and both companies have sent tremors through the industry as they unite to form the world’s largest third party videogame publisher. The new publishing behemoth is expected to have around $3.8 billion in pro forma combined calendar 2007 revenues. The merger will create a company, whose collection consists of some of the leading videogame franchises in the industry, including Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo, Activision’s Call of Duty and Tony Hawk, and Vivendi’s Spyro.

The deal is intricate and yet-to-be-approved, and it’s expected to end with a 52% majority Vivendi-owned “Activision Blizzard” body trading on NASDAQ. But what are the main points and lessons we should gain from this immense deal? Obviously, there is a plethora, but here are some of the key points from the Activision and Vivendi Games merger announcement:

1)Activision is the dominant partner. The deal calls for Vivendi to fold its games unit, which is valued at $8.12 billion, into the new company, and provide $1.73 billion in cash.

2) Blizzard will enjoy the same independence as always.

3)World of Warcaft’s revenues are absolutely staggering: Vivendi’s key game has 9.3 million subscribers worldwide who pay a monthly subscription on top of the original purchase price.

4) Vivendi’s non-Blizzard assets are downplayed.

5) Electronic Arts is still bigger than the new company, and is probably worried. Activision Blizzard, with its have estimated revenue of $3.8 billion for 2007, rivals Electronic Arts Inc.’s full-year forecast revenue of up to $3.65 billion.

6) Chairman of Vivendi Games, Rene Penisson, will serve as chairman of the new company, and Activision co-chairman Brian Kelly will be Activision Blizzard’s co-chairman.

In the end, companies come and go, and for all its immaturity, you can tell the videogame industry is getting on in years. The first large wave of mergers and acquisitions struck back in the mid 90’s, when amplified development costs, the downfall of the American arcade, and the move from 2D development left dozens of small and mid-sized developers, from Toaplan to Technos, out in the cold.

Durante le feste di natale la console di casa Nintendo ovvero il Nintendo Wii è andata fortissimo, e sempre per le feste era prevista anche la nuova Nintendo DSi con nuove funzionalità come la fotocamera e il lettore musicale, su cui è poi possibile usare la supercard one.

Anche l’Xbox 360 della Microsoft ha venduto 28 milioni fino a fine 2008, l’anno migliore di sempre per questa console. Anche Ps3 di Sony ha registrato un aumento a doppia cifra: in aumento del 40% rispetto a un anno fa, con 20 milioni di Playstation 3 consegnate. Inoltre la PS3 è l’unica console in commercio che monti anche un dispositivo Blu-ray. Sony infatti non ha perso occasione per ribadire la superiorità della sua console rispetto al suo concorrente, l’Xbox.

Microsoft ha risposto per le rime facendo notare che le vendite dell’Xbox stanno andando benissimo, che la politica di taglio dei prezzi ha dato i suoi frutti e quindi per ora un adattamento alla tecnologia Blu-ray è assolutamente fuori questione.

Eppure la console più giocata di tutti i tempi resta sempre la PS2. Infatti ora Wii è addirittura considerato la PS2 di questa nuova generazione. Anche se per il momento nessuno ha ancora superato le vendite della PS2 sul lungo periodo. Wii già straccia le vendite sia della PS3 che dell’Xbox 360, e ora si è prefisso uno scopo ancora più ambizioso. E sembrerebbe anche avere i numeri per raggiungerlo. Ampi successi la Nintendo sta ricevendo anche con la sua console portatile Nintendo Dsi, in entrambi i casi il motivo di questo enorme successo è che le due console si rivolgono, sia per stile e formato che per i giochi utilizzabili, ad un pubblico molto ampio che comprende giovani, sia maschi che femmine, ma anche adulti e perché no anziani.

Riguardo invece al Blu-ray, se sarà un fuoco di paglia ancora non è dato sapere, certo le vendite sono quadruplicate negli ultimi mesi, il Blu-ray è una tecnologia di certo molto alla moda, ma sempre d’elite, soprattutto per il suo prezzo ancora alto.
